The 5th London Jewish Food Festival was held on June 15th 2014 at LJCC and was sponsored by The Grove, Kosher Deli and The Jewish Chronicle.
Highlights on the day included the now legendary Ashkenazi – Sephardi Bake Off, world renowned American Food Writer Joan Nathan imparted her knowledge on Rugelach and a demonstration from the Israeli TV Chef Gil Hovav.
Workshops covered pickling herring, preserving lemons, and making Yemenite Zehoug.
Well known guest speakers included Itamar Srulovich and Sarit Packer of honey and Co, and our very own session of Just A Minute with Dan Patterson, Abigail Morris of The Jewish Museum, Marlena Spieler and Daniel Taub Israel’s Ambassador to The United Kingdom.
Text and learning sessions included Getting It In The Neck: Are Giraffes Kosher, The Taboo of Pig and On Microbes, Bugs & Meaning.
Gefiltefest has always had a strong interest in social action. 2014 included sessions on bee keeping, eco-kosher and challah baking for hunger.
Some of last years recipes: Kim Kushner’s Farfalle with Pistachio Pesto, Michal Hromas’ Apfel Strudel, Linda Dangoor’s Mahallabi (Aromatic Almond Pudding), Gil Hovav’s Zehoug (Hot Yemenite Salsa) and The Jewish Princesses Street Food Fish Bites.
